Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of anatomy and surgical techniques, excellent technical skills, and the ability to work confidently in complex surgical settings
  • Associate’s Degree in Surgical Assisting
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting Program
  • Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a high-acuity environment
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • 5x8 Hour Shifts
  • Shift Time: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • The Surgical Assistant will perform advanced intraoperative support duties to help ensure safe, efficient, and effective surgical outcomes while maintaining excellent patient care and professional collaboration with the surgical team
  • Assist surgeons during surgical procedures under direct supervision
  • Position patients appropriately to optimize surgical site exposure and procedural safety
  • Provide visualization of the operative field through:
  • Placement and securing of retractors
  • Tissue manipulation
  • Suctioning, irrigating, and sponging
  • Packing with sponges
  • Handling and manipulation of sutures
  • Assist with hemostasis techniques during procedures
  • Perform wound closure using sutures, staples, subcutaneous, or subcuticular closure techniques as directed by the surgeon
  • Apply appropriate postoperative dressings and immobilization materials
  • Assist with securing drainage systems to tissue
  • Support harvesting procedures involving veins, radial arteries, tendons, bone, skin, and plastic closures when applicable
  • Provide expert intraoperative assistance during major surgical cases
  • Maintain sterile technique and adhere to all surgical safety protocols
  • Stay current with evolving surgical technologies and specialty practices
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and operating room personnel
